Stress in dogs. Be careful …
You and I are well aware of the concept of stress. We are confident in its undesirability, and even the obvious danger to our health, and therefore, faced with a strong stressful situation in everyday life or at work, we understand that you need to take a vacation to go somewhere, change the atmosphere and give rest to your nerves.
But the dogs living with us in apartments also experience stressful shock. And at the same time they can not go on vacation or give unloading to their nervous system.
The fact is that the rhythm and conditions of modern life affect (not in the best way) not only in people …
The nervous system of dogs could have been much more protected if their owners found at least a little time to forget about important things, leave their phones at home, and go with their pet to somewhere out of town. Then the dog would have the opportunity to realize his canine needs, his activity, run up from the heart … But alas! More often than not, the owners simply have no time.
Meanwhile, this is perhaps the only way to save the animal from possible severe stress: to give it the opportunity to break out of the mundane pressure that is pressing on the psyche and get distracted, thanks to some interesting activity.
Stress in adult dogs can occur in two forms, positive or negative. Negative stress is, as a rule, pinched ears, panting … Pupils can be dilated, excessive salivation, paws sweat. The dog may lie on the floor and not move. Wool may fall out and even unwanted puddles on the floor can happen – as a symptom of humility.
In a state of positive stress, the dog is overly active, like a puppy that “leaves the uvma” under the pressure of some owner’s command: runs around, invites the owner to play, falling on its front paws and raising its backside. And his behavior becomes more foolish, the more the owner tries to calm him down. It is very difficult to catch a dog, and if it succeeds, then its behavior will be inconsistent: humility will be interspersed with hyperactivity.
Do not quarrel – take pity on the dog!
To a state of stress, a dog can easily lead to a quarrel in the family. It should be noted that just at such moments, the owners usually do not care about their pet.
Quite often, dogs show themselves quite unusual during family conflicts. They begin to bark, howl, tear things. A fairly common occurrence as a result of this stressful situation is that the dog is crap in the house. She can do this on the bed of the owners, thereby proving how strong the connection between the animal and people – members of the family, with the family as a whole.
Yes, dogs cannot express their feelings in words. More precisely, people do not know enough how to understand them. However, a person and a dog are perhaps closer and more understandable to each other than a person and other animals. At some points, a relationship with a dog is even more reliable than a relationship with some people.
And so the owners need to keep in mind: the dog will behave appropriately and will not get sick if they themselves find the strength to change their outlook on life.
Loneliness. And the dog.
It happens that a dog, left alone, begins to chew on shoes, get dirty in the house, spoil things or howl. It is not necessary to perceive this as a striving to disgrace. This means that the dog is experiencing internal torment. After all, people also behave under stress in a similar way, sometimes not better: they bite their nails, rush about indoors, start smoking unlimitedly or seek salvation in alcohol.
Where does this anxiety from the dog come from? After all, its owner will definitely return home … The factors are: excessive devotion or a tendency to leadership.
If the owner, having come home and seeing spoiled shoes, begins to scold the dog or physically punishes him, he thereby only contributes to an increase in anxiety and tension in the animal. Then the dog will fear not only loneliness, but also the return of the owner, and, consequently, a probable punishment. There is a vicious circle, which is very difficult to break.
According to the zoopsychologist John Fisher, the author of the book What Your Dog Thinks About, if the dog has such problems, then almost always the same conditions contribute to this. So, the owners usually confirm that their dog sleeps in the bedroom, walks after the owners from room to room, keeping up even on the way to the toilet. When asked how the dog will behave if the door is closed in front of her, these people say that she will whine and cross. Then the owners immediately open the door. To the question of why the dog sleeps in the room, the answer is: “Because it will make a terrible noise if left in another room.”
Thus, the owners themselves create a problem by arranging the circumstances so that the dog is not used to staying behind a closed door. She was used to the fact that if the owner of the house, then all the doors in the house were open to her. And therefore, when you have to remain alone, she endures it very hard, feeling almost like a prisoner, and therefore losing control of herself.
