Differences between English and American Cocker Spaniels. What is the difference between American and English Cocker?
At first glance, the cocker spaniel seems like a dog of extraordinary beauty, but not everyone knows that cockers are excellent hunters, strong, smart and active. Cockers are divided into two varieties – English and American. In this article, you will find out what are the main differences between them.
It seems to many that there is no difference between them, but it’s worth taking a look, and you will see that the English cocker has a more elongated face, while the American cocker has a snub-nosed and deeper face.

Cockers appeared in England, but American breeders also wanted to create their own spaniel, and through further selection, an American cocker spaniel, slightly different in appearance and character, appeared. The American cocker turned out to be more compact, its legs and neck were lengthened, elegant “panties” appeared, and the head became dome-shaped.
The American Spaniel is a small hunting dog compared to others, but very strong, fast and hardy. During the hunt, it perfectly traces game, scares and brings to the owner, has an excellent sense of smell. Thanks to the long silky coat with black or black with white spots, the American seems very picturesque.

The English breed of spaniels exceeds the American in 2-3 cm in height and 3-4 kg in weight. The English cocker has a strong physique, well-developed musculature, and an even fit of the head. His ears and tail are long, the coat is slightly wavy, and the color is most often black, black-red or black-fawn.
Compared to his brother, the American is more energetic, temperamental, likes to play with children. This dog coexists without problems with the household and worships his master, gladly accompanies him on a hunt or walk. Both the American and the English cocker just need a lot of attention, because of which they can seem very intrusive. He needs to be educated so that he does not grow upward and naughty, walk in the woods or in the park, in general, have enough time to communicate with the pet. In addition, this breed can not be separated for a long time from the owner, because loyalty to the owner is the meaning of life spaniels.

The American is either very playful or too serious, the Englishman is always affectionate and gentle. If you want to attend various exhibitions and shows, the American Cocker is perfect for you, but if you need a calm dog, choose the English Cocker Spaniel.
In any case, cockers bring joy and optimism to the house!
